Children’s Mission, Inc. Supports the Community

Children’s Mission, Inc. provides a wealth of services to the citizens in our North Philadelphia community and beyond. For years, we have offered a robust food pantry and soup kitchen, a- first rate academic program and criminal justice reform services that continue to impact the community in a positive way. While, in recent years we have experienced the luxury of a few small grant rewards, the lion’s share of our work is accomplished by a committed core of volunteers and donations from individuals who have seen the value of our work.

CMI Services

Criminal Justice Reform

CMI is located in one of the most marginalized communities in our city. We serve black and brown citizens who sometimes find themselves on the wrong side of the law or victoms of heavy-handed policing. As a result, we have established a Participatory Defense Hub which is designed to help non violent offenders navigate the complexities of our criminal justice system. CMI’s Justice Reform Ministry colaborates with a city-wide campaign, through the Defendors Assocation, to help individuals to know their rights.

Education Services

CMI provides Educational Services by way of a seven-week summer day camp, an after school tutoring program and a mobile book lab which promotes reading using our pop up library. The pandemic forced the temporary suspension of this ministry and our community has suffered greatly under the distance learning model implemented by our school system. The digital divide exposed the harsh realities of our students who, in many cases, were already below grade level and have now fallen even farther behind. We were afforded the opportunity to restart in 2021. We have improved our facilities so that all necessary precautions were put in place for face to face instruction. Inorder to address the achievment gaps that exist in our communtiy, CMI has adopted the theme, Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead for our summer camp and after school tutorial programs. In addition to intensive remediation in Reading and Writing, the S.T.E.A.M. theme will expose participants to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. We invite you to assist us by volunteering, donating supplies, sponsoring a club and/or lending your financial support.

Food Services Ministry

For over 20 years, CMI has worded to increase access to food for families in our community. During the height of the pandemic and inlight of the economic conditions of our nation a greater demand has been pleaced of our Food Services Ministry . For the past couple of years we have seen a steady increase in need for food. It is our expectation that with the impending decrease in SNAP benefits the need to provide food for families will continue to rise.

Discipleship

Through our discipleship program we have studied the books of: Daniel, selected Psalms, Ephesians, The Seven Churches of Asia Minor, The Way of The Shepherd and lives of Old Testament Prophets. In addition, our daily calls are a source of intentional prayers for our children, families, community, local, state and federal governments. We have witnessed the hand of God draw us closer in fellowship, heal sicknesses, transition loved ones from life to life adn answer prayers by making ways out of no way.
